Usually around this time of year, we are filling our calendars with seasonal styling for our clients, but with the pandemic happening, we have decided to share a few styling tips on the blog for you to use instead!
Styling your home for the holidays can feel overwhelming, and I always feel like I need to have the entire house decorated! When we moved into our new home almost two years ago, our 10-year-old holiday decor didn’t fit the style of our new home, or our design preferences, so I decided to slowly begin styling one room at a time in an effort to break down the process, spread out the investment, and give myself time to find the pieces that fit my vision.
The first step was to select a color palette. With two little girls, I wanted Christmas to feel magical so I opted for a classic red and white style, with gold, black and natural greenery as accents. Our staircase is a prominent feature in our home, and also happens to be where stocking will be hung due to the modern design of our fireplace, so I focused on this one area. I found this gorgeous 6′ Cedar Pine garland from McGee & Co. that fit the length of each railing perfectly!
The final elements are the stockings. With the arrival of our second daughter in the spring, I decided it was time to get both girls matching stockings that coordinated with our classic red velvet ones. I opted for the channel quilted velvet in ivory, but kept the same color and script font throughout. To hang the stockings and add a pop of color, I used this red velvet ribbon from Sugar Paper LA. This is also the same brand I use for my gift wrap, which really brings the whole picture together!
For the final detail, I found these adorable mistletoe accents and placed gold jingle bells on the ivory stockings. A festive, magical, yet sophisticated staircase for Christmas!
