Hi all! Today I am going to walk you through our master bathroom. When I started writing this post I realized I have SO MUCH to share with you, so I made this into a two-part post. First up – the basics!
When building our home two years ago, the first thing I had to select was the hardware for the plumbing. I have always loved the look of a traditional, stand-alone tub and classic fixtures so that was the inspiration for this space. My husband has slowly come around to accepting he loves traditional design as well, but at the time of building, he would tell you he prefers a contemporary or modern style. To mix our styles, I chose a tub in a pure white color, with a swooping effect and clean lines to achieve a contemporary take on a traditional feature.
To add interest and warmth to the space, the walls were painted Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams and we added this flushmount chandelier from Restoration Hardware above the tub to soften the space and provide a focal point. This lighting fixture is one of my absolute favorites and worth the splurge!
I carried the approach of classic styles with more modern finishes to the hardware and tile. We selected the Dartmoor Chrome Two Handle High Arc faucets from Moen. The shape of the faucets are a classic design and the shine of the chrome finish adds a touch of elegance. The floors are a black hexagon tile with a lighter gray grout to continue our theme of classic elements with a nod to contemporary. If you follow our Instagram you’ll know I have two little girls, and so when designing a space I am constantly thinking through the longevity and upkeep of materials. The faucets and tile are easy to clean and don’t look dirty all the time with daily use, which is a huge win for me!
The one thing I knew I had to have in all of our bathrooms was towel hooks. After years of trying to perfectly fold towels to hang just right on towel bars, only to have them unevenly dry and mess up the towel next to it every time I pulled it off to use, I made the decision that installing hooks was the way to go. Not only are hooks beautiful when empty, but they are more functional for daily use. Plus, they make me feel like my bathroom is in a nice hotel every morning. 🙂 Durability is a must for me, and so with the frequency of use in mind, we splurged once again and bought these gorgeous Lugarno hooks from Restoration Hardware.
I truly fell in love with the style of these hooks and wanted to carry the rounded chrome detail to the knobs on our vanity, but I needed to find a more cost-effective option. I found these knobs on Wayfair that coordinated and are great quality! The last items I bought were the mirrors from Pottery Barn, which I had my eye on from the moment we decided to build, and our sconces. The sconces will be replaced eventually, as the ones I planned for were out of stock in the chrome finish, and at the time, I was hesitant to mix metals in this space until I saw the chandelier installed.
To pull the white cabinetry and black tile together, I searched for an off-white quartz countertop with light veining. I love the delicate movement and interest the Misterio style from Pental Quartz brings to the vanity!
And that’s it! Installing a new bathroom, or renovating an existing room, takes an investment and planning, but for the room in your home that should feel like a sanctuary for you to start and end your day, it’s worth the work.
